Data analytics helps Rolls-Royce ensure tax and immigration compliance across the globe
With a 50,000-strong workforce, and employees moving across international borders on a daily basis, how does Rolls-Royce ensure compliance with tax and immigration regulation on a global scale?
Global mobility is a critical component of Rolls-Royce’s success: speed to market and the ability to move skills to the right locations to address global market demand is imperative. Yet mobility of talent on this scale can create challenges in complying with varying regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
Global compliance for Rolls-Royce is non-negotiable and the company has well-established programmes and assignment policies in place. But Rolls-Royce recognised that a greater challenge existed in dealing with the significant population of employees who did not fall within the group’s framework for international assignments.
To manage this risk, we worked with Rolls-Royce and the company’s global travel providers to put in place a data-driven analytics solution. By using the Deloitte Business Travel Analyser, flight data available from the travel provider’s booking system is processed through the tool, applying tax, risk and business logic, to provide an assessment of the company’s compliance profile on an ongoing basis. Rolls-Royce then use the interactive dashboard technology to identify travelling employees who trigger compliance risk for themselves or for the company; assess tax reporting and withholding obligations globally and ensure all reporting and filing obligations are discharged. All at the apparent click of a button!
