On Wednesday 6 March 2024 it was announced that the UK government will be abolishing the tax rules for non-UK domiciled individuals and replacing them with a residence-based regime. The new rules will operate from 6 April 2025, which is after our next UK general election, meaning it is possible the reforms will change before implementation. How will these changes impact employers? We’ll discuss:
- What we currently understand of the new rules
- Any open questions or points of uncertainty
- The main apparent winners and losers of the new regime
- Examples of how employees could be impacted
- Considerations for employers in respect of their global mobility programmes
