Our sessions at the IFGS 2019

  • Day One

    Monday 29th April

  • Day Two

    Tuesday 30th April

Startups. Accelerators. Intrapreneurship. Digital Innovation Teams. Incubators. Corporate Venture Capital. There’s a dizzying array of transformation and innovation strategies (not to mention buzzwords) available to large organisations, and it’s often difficult to make sense of them. This interactive session with seasoned practitioners will dig into the best practices for leveraging these strategies to achieve the only results that count: capabilities, competitiveness and shareholder value.

Speakers:
Mike Sigal - Co-Founder, Upside Partners & General Partner, 500 Startups
Katy Bentley - Director, Deloitte Ventures

Motivations for setting up a Corporate Venture functions range from finding the next big thing, to hedging against disruption, replacing partnering spend with balance sheet strength, or just matching the competitors that came before you. But convincing your Board is just the beginning of the journey: VC is an asset class like none other, and you won’t learn the rules of the road from business school case studies or your private equity experience. This session will explore the nuances of KPIs, team composition, and engaging both your lines of business, and the venture ecosystem to drive real results.

Speakers:
Mike Sigal - Co-Founder, Upside Partners & General Partner, 500 Startups
Russell Fisher - Head of Ventures, Nationwide Building Society
Luis Valdich - Managing Director of Venture Investing, Citi Ventures

True innovation in finance is hiding in plain sight – in the illicit economies and transactions that have to adapt, experiment and invent just to survive. This is how underground economies do business, and what we can learn from industries that thrive in the shadows.

Speaker:

Alex Cole - Senior Consultant, Deloitte

Join Deloitte Ventures and Backstage Capital for a fast-paced session exploring the importance of an adaptable ecosystem in today’s markets, the challenges and potential mistakes we face in building diversity in today’s businesses, and five tips for creating a diverse ecosystem to be confident in the face of disruption.

Speakers:
Scott Campbell - Director, Deloitte Ventures
Anisah Osman Britton - Director, Backstage Capital

If investment banks are to push back towards pre-crisis returns on equity, firms must move away from the desire to be completely self-sufficient and embrace changing market dynamics. This will mean an evolved model where differentiation is achieved by generating and monetising insights from data, while the operational platform is increasingly delivered collaboratively via an industry-wide connected flow. Facing up to the way business models will change in the years to come will help firms to make the right choices now.

Speaker:
Rollo Burgess - Director, Deloitte

Join representatives from FinTech hubs who will explain how they have developed thriving FinTech ecosystems in their countries and regions.

Speakers:
Sam Kullar - Senior Consultant, Deloitte
David Parker, Executive Director Bahrain Economic Development Board
Sagar Shah, Senior Advisor, Fintech Saudi
Jean-Louis Van Houwe - CEO, Fintech Belgium
Katie Fulcher - Chair, BPS Birmingham Futures
Chris Brown - Senior Consultant, Deloitte

Digital transformation is here and risk and compliance functions need to keep up. Why? For leaders today, risk can be used as a tool to create value and achieve higher levels of performance. It’s no longer something to fear, minimise, and avoid. In this session, Andrew Berry from Deloitte’s Risk Advisory team, will demo live disruptive technology and present real life case studies, which evidence that risk and compliance transformation is a reality that you need to make the most of.

Speaker: Andrew Berry - Director, Deloitte
Jan-Hinnerk Fahrenkamp - Director, Deloitte

Small and medium enterprise (SME) banking has long been underserviced, often due to the fact they have a lot of fragmented data that doesn’t satisfy traditional lending criteria. The rise of AI, machine learning and APIs is opening up the world of SME banking for the better. In a fast 30 minute session, Fractal Labs CEO Nicholas Heller will cover the opportunities in SME banking, how to monetise APIs, and how to work with the very institutions you’re seeking to disrupt.

Speaker:
Nicholas Heller - CEO & Founder, Fractal Labs

The introduction of open banking has seen a dramatic change in the way that traditional banks must operate. At the centre of this change is the use of APIs. Whilst Financial institutions are creating tactical APIs to meet new Open Banking regulations, many are failing to realise the full benefits that APIs can provide by not invoking an API-led strategy. Join Deloitte and MuleSoft to explore how putting APIs at the heart of your transformation strategy can enable greater speed, flexibility and agility, and deliver sustainable competitive advantage.

Speakers:
Matt Cronin - Senior Solution Engineer, MuleSoft
Gareth Addison - Director, Deloitte
