CPTPP industry insights

Following two years of negotiations, the UK signed the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership in July 0f 2023. Businesses will now have well over a year to get ready for the agreement to come into force in the UK. The agreement means UK firms will find it easier to access preferential tariffs, thanks to the flexible origin requirements. Malaysia, Asia’s fastest-growing economy, is the biggest new export opportunity, as the two countries didn’t previously have a bilateral FTA in place. The agreement also contains modern commitments on services market access.
