A healthcare system that works for everyone
Helping South Australia Health build a health system that matches the state’s world-class infrastructure
The state of South Australia spans almost one million square kilometres and covers a population of 1.7 million. Deloitte is working with the South Australian Department of Health and Ageing (SA Health) on its Transforming Health Program. The programme is aimed at ensuring all South Australians have equitable access to the best and most reliable healthcare possible and, at the same time, making sure the healthcare system is sustainable in the future.
SA Health wants to remove any unnecessary variation in clinical practice, improving outcomes for everyone who touches the health system. Over the last decade, every major hospital has been upgraded and SA Health now needs a health system that will match this world-class infrastructure - one that embraces innovation, takes full advantage of technology and advances in medical treatments, and is flexible enough to meet future challenges.
The Deloitte team was drawn from our member firms in Australia, Canada, the UK and the US, combining the expertise of our global health practice with our UK firm’s capability of delivering large and complex healthcare programme management.
Our team worked with each of the local health networks in the state, establishing new ways of working with clinicians to develop better care pathways to improve outcomes for patients. We found ways to enhance how services are allocated between hospital sites, to improve how efficiently the hospital buildings are used. We also provided programme management support for all of the Transforming Health workstreams, improving the project management capability of the staff within SA Health.
Our work on improving the allocation of services across the hospitals and in focusing on the emergency departments, operating theatres, mental health and outpatient services is supporting the delivery of better healthcare. We look forward to continuing our work with SA Health, and helping it deliver a healthcare system that provides the best care; first time, every time.
