Working differently to provide early diagnosis

Improving access to diagnostics

September 2013

Early diagnosis of disease is better for patients and makes good economic sense. This Deloitte Centre for Health Solutions report examines how healthcare commissioners and providers can work differently with the diagnostic industry and other providers to increase early diagnosis and operate more efficiently.

While the report presents information for the UK, its focus is on healthcare services in England, with specific attention on the vitro diagnostic and imaging market. The report's conclusions are predicated on three key themes:

  • the need to improve access to early diagnosis in the face of rising demand and limited funding growth
  • the organisational, financial, operational and cultural obstacles preventing early access to diagnostics
  • how working differently could help.
