For children around the world, who live and work on the streets, education is often inaccessible.

Fleeing natural disaster, conflict, poverty or abuse – or a combination – means that accessing traditional forms of learning isn’t possible. Enter Belgian-founded not-for-profit organisation, MobileSchool.org. With our help, they’re expanding their reach to build a better world, one street at a time.

When the street is your classroom

According to UNICEF, an estimated 356 million children live in extreme poverty, and nearly 150 million additional children are at risk of falling into poverty due to the current pandemic. Faced with unimaginable problems like conflict, natural disaster or extreme poverty, a Belgian not-for-profit organisation is trying to help improve their futures through education.

“Think of MobileSchool.org as a ‘blackboard on wheels’,” explains founder Arnoud Raskin, speaking of his hybrid organisation that provides educational resources to impoverished children by transforming city streets into classrooms.

Using transportable pods equipped with built-in, interactive zones that offer an immersive experience, school-aged children can explore and learn, maximising their personal development.

The children of MobileSchool.org are growing up in extreme poverty and are often overlooked or seen as problematic. But Arnoud’s organisation knows the kind of positive contribution these kids can make, if only our society helped them tap into their potential.

It’s this mission that’s at the heart of MobileSchool.org, which was founded in 2002. Its StreetSmart platform develops game-changing tools for youth workers to enable them to unlock the potential of young people worldwide. Over the years, the organisation has transformed and grown its offerings to remain relevant and extend its reach.
