Deloitte director honoured in the 2014 Power Part Time List

05 December 2014

Katie Jackson, a director in the forensic practice at Deloitte, the business advisory firm, has been named in the 2014 Power Part Time List. The list, which is compiled by Timewise, is a roll call of 50 powerful UK executives, who all work part time or flexibly.

Within the Deloitte UK forensic practice, Katie provides clients with financial crime regulatory advice on matters such as anti-money laundering and financial sanctions, and leads multiple teams of up to 30 Deloitte employees.

In 2010, Katie reduced her working hours to four days a week following the birth of her first child and, upon having a second child in 2011, was encouraged by senior colleagues to consider her “acceptable level of working”, in order to have a genuine career-life balance. For Katie, working four days a week with one at home was the perfect arrangement; she could continue the career she loved and still be “mum”.

The news follows Deloitte’s recognition as a top employer for working families and the introduction of the firm’s agile working programme, which includes a range of formal and informal flexible working practices. Deloitte also recently hosted a visit from the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg at its London offices, during which he discussed the importance of family friendly policies and Deloitte’s commitment to offer enhanced shared parental leave, with parents at the firm.

Katie said: “I’m honoured to have been included in the Timewise 2014 Power Part Time List. Although my job is often high pressured and demanding I have been able to adopt a truly agile approach to working. This would not have been possible without the constant support of my team and the firm as a whole. I hope that others, both at Deloitte and outside the firm, are able to relate to my situation and recognise the options that are also available to them.”

Timewise co-founder and judge Karen Mattison MBE, said: “Katie and the other 49 individuals represent how work in the UK is changing. In sharing their stories they help to change the conversation, from what is ‘not possible’ when you work flexibly - to what is. The Power Part Time Listers are paving the way for future generations. We hope that they inspire others to open up about their patterns of work.”
