Immigration reform and implications for business

10 June 2015

Jurga McCluskey, partner and head of Deloitte's UK immigration practice: “Business will suffer significantly if these measures are supported by the Migration Advisory Committee and then introduced by the Government. Businesses look to recruit foreign workers to address gaps in skills, but this will become more challenging if the Government dictates to business the period of time these skills can be in shortage for and further reduces the relevant immigration categories.

“There would also be extra cost for business, with additional costs to Tier 2 visas through an “apprenticeship surcharge” and an increase in the minimum salary thresholds for all skilled migrants. These measures would have a negative impact on the UK’s competitiveness.”
