Inspiring Women at Deloitte

Celebrating International Women’s Day with Miriam González Durántez

19 March 2015

Deloitte’s Women’s Network* hosted an event with Miriam González Durántez, Partner at Dechert LLP, and champion of the Inspiring Women Campaign, in London last night to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD).

Miriam shared her experience in launching the Inspiring Women Campaign**, and her personal journey in building a successful career in the public eye. The event was open to employees and clients, who have a common interest in increasing the number of female leaders in business.

In the spirit of the 2015 IWD theme ‘Make It Happen’, the audience heard first-hand from a head teacher and student from Basildon Upper Academy who have both participated in Miriam’s campaign.  They discussed the real-life impact the initiative has had in their school, and how the mentoring has changed the student’s view on her career.  This has helped her achieve goals she thought were out of reach.

Miriam González Durántez, said: "The Inspiring Women Campaign that I have been leading for over a year and a half is based on a very simple premise: you cannot be it unless you can see it. That is why we want to show to young girls the different options they might have in life and we are doing so by exposing them to all the amazing female role models that are out there."

Emma Codd, Deloitte’s Managing Partner for Talent, hosted the event and said: “The event was a great opportunity to have an open and honest conversation about the barriers that women continue to face throughout their careers and the importance of role models for the next generation of young women.

“At Deloitte we recognise that making any meaningful change in relation to gender diversity is not just about those women already within the workplace – it is also about those who could access it in the future. The significant positive impact of providing early access to role models and an insight into what can be achieved should not be under-estimated.”
