Deloitte chief economist comments on this morning's unemployment figures

12 November 2019

Commenting on the latest unemployment figures, published this morning by the Office for National Statistics, Ian Stewart, chief economist at Deloitte, said:

“The economic slowdown has been underway for some time now and is finally hitting the jobs market. The story of the last ten years, of booming private sector employment and shrinking public sector employment, has gone into reverse. Private sector job growth is flatlining while the number of public sector jobs is rising.”
