Deloitte chief economist inflation figures comment
17 April 2019
Commenting on the latest inflation figures, published this morning by the Office for National Statistics, Ian Stewart, chief economist at Deloitte, said:
“Inflation has been running below wage growth for over a year. This perfectly timed revival of consumer spending power has coincided with further falls in unemployment and means the UK consumer is pretty well positioned to cope with Brexit-related uncertainties.”
On Monday, Deloitte published its latest CFO survey, gauging sentiment amongst the UK’s largest businesses in the wake of Parliament’s rejections of Theresa May’s Brexit deal. See more detail on the survey here.
