Deloitte role models recognised in OUTstanding LGBT + lists 2019 for promoting diversity and inclusivity
30 October 2019
Two Deloitte role models have been named in the annual OUTstanding LGBT+ Role Models 2019 list, supported by Yahoo Finance.
Now in its seventh year, the four lists run by INvolve covering Executives, Allies, Future Leaders and Public Sector Executives - celebrate the work being done across the globe to promote diversity and inclusivity.
This year, Deloitte leaders were included in two lists: Laurie Rutter, co-chair of GLOBE, Deloitte’s LGBT+ network is ranked 5th, in the ‘OUTstanding 50 LGBT+ Future Leaders List’, celebrating those making an impact for LGBT+ rights at all levels in a company, not just those at the top.
Jackie Henry, office senior partner for Deloitte in Northern Ireland, is in the ‘OUTstanding 50 Ally Executives List’, ranked 36th, highlighting the non-LGBT+ executives who are outspoken in developing and supporting their diverse workforces.
Laurie Rutter has been involved in Deloitte’s LGBT+ network, GLOBE, since joining the firm three years ago. In that time, they have led on increasing transgender inclusion within the network and across the firm more broadly. This has included shaping and launching the firm’s gender expression and transition policy and also changing recruitment and onboarding processes to make them easier for trans people.
Jackie Henry has launched a number of initiatives to promote inclusion with a specific focus on LGBT+ in Deloitte in Northern Ireland. This has included empowering and educating colleagues so they feel confident to bring their whole self to the workplace, the introduction of ‘Toilet for All’ facilities across the Deloitte Belfast campus and leading the firm’s response to calling for marriage equality in Northern Ireland last year.
Richard Houston, senior partner and chief executive of Deloitte North and South Europe, said: “I am delighted to see our people recognised in this respected list. I’m committed to ensuring a truly inclusive culture at Deloitte, where everyone feels welcome and respected at all times. This commitment goes to the heart of who we are and what we do. I’m proud of how we celebrate and support our LGBT+ people but recognise that we must always strive to do more.”
Dimple Agarwal, managing partner for People & Purpose at Deloitte UK, said: “At Deloitte, we are committed to our respect, diversity and inclusion initiatives. I want the firm to be seen as a champion of LGBT+ inclusion. I am an LGBT+ Ally and we have a really important role in creating change. This can be done by calling out and stopping disrespectful behaviour, supporting and openly lending our voices to stand up for minority groups.”
Founder & CEO of INvolve, Suki Sandhu OBE, says, “We’re delighted to be celebrating another fantastic group of people from across the globe who are collectively driving cultural change and creating workplaces where everyone can succeed. LGBT+ discrimination is still prevalent in a lot of the world’s biggest economies, but highlighting the work of successful role models changes people’s perceptions. They demonstrate that you can be successful and out at work, but most importantly inspire the next generation of LGBT+ leaders.”
