Deloitte scoops responsible business award for its work addressing gender

10 July 2019

  • Deloitte wins Gender Equality Award at Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Awards
  • Firm is one of 12 winners in UK’s most prestigious responsible business awards
  • Award announced at ceremony in London’s Royal Albert Hall

Deloitte was named winner of the Gender Equality Award at Business in the Community’s (BITC) 2019 Annual Responsible Business Gala in London last night which was attended by nearly 1000 business leaders and influencers.

The event was the culmination of the 2019 Responsible Business in Action campaign, run by Business in the Community – The Prince’s Responsible Business Network - to celebrate the innovative ways that businesses in the UK and abroad are making a sustained difference and transforming communities.

Deloitte was praised for its gender equality drive focusing on the actions and attitudes of senior management. The firm has set targets to ensure that, by 2020, 25% of partners, leadership teams and lead client service partners will be female and that by 2030 40% of the firm’s partners will be female.

Deloitte’s Gender Balance plan ensures that its CEO, Chairman and service line leaders have gender diversity measures as part of their objectives.

Women now make up 21% of partners at Deloitte, up from 14% in 2014. This year saw a threefold increase in female promotions from last year, 41% were women.

Emma Codd, Global Special Advisor on Inclusion at Deloitte, said: “We are so proud to receive this prestigious gender equality award in recognition of our relentless focus on ensuring that we always provide an inclusive culture underpinned at all times by respect”.

“This focus, which has been led from the top of our firm, has seen us create the thought-provoking ‘Ask Yourself’ film, put all our senior leaders through extensive mandatory inclusive leadership sessions – both in 2015 and 2018, create and roll out mandatory online inclusion development sessions to all our people and – most importantly – ensure that all our people feel able to escalate any concerns they may have when it comes to non-inclusive behaviours in the knowledge that we will always take appropriate action.”

Amanda Mackenzie, chief executive at Business in the Community, said: “Huge congratulations to Deloitte on their success in this year’s Responsible Business Awards. They have shown determination and ambition to keep pushing the responsible business agenda through real, tangible action.

“All our award winners understand that the only way to bring about change is to actually do something about it. Deloitte is putting responsible business practices at the core of their organisation and are helping our mission to make the UK the world leader at responsible business.”

The Business in the Community Responsible Business Awards celebrate the very best in responsible business, and aim to inspire and enlighten the world with the innovative business stories that are at the heart of every community, and to highlight the untold stories of businesses that are driving positive changes in their operations both nationally, and internationally.
