Deloitte welcomes senior hire to its economic consulting practice

9 September 2019

Deloitte today announces the appointment of Dr Ric Simes as a director in its financial advisory business.

Ric joins as a director in Deloitte’s economic consulting team, where he will focus on economic regulation in a number of industries including technology, media, telecommunications and energy and resources.

He joins the firm having until recently been part of Deloitte Asia Pacific, based in Australia. Ric has experience in public policy, governance, finance, econometrics and strategy. He has previously held senior positions in the Commonwealth Treasury, international academia and the Australian Prime Minister’s office.

Ric’s career spans over 40 years and has involved leading projects including analysis of planning and regional development issues in financial services, climate change, transport and the digital economy.

Sam Blackie, lead partner of Deloitte’s economic consulting practice comments: “As our clients face increasingly complex regulatory challenges, it’s essential we have a team that can meet their changing needs and provide best-in-class advice. Ric brings a wealth of experience and international perspective. As economic regulators increasingly look at international best practice, it’s particularly important that we’re able to look across markets to meet those challenges.”

Dr Ric Simes adds: “Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of economic advisory in different countries is key to strengthening a firm’s offering. Deloitte recognises this need and has a diverse and talented team. There’s considerable value in taking learnings from one country to another and I’m looking forward to guiding our clients through the challenges which lay ahead.”

Deloitte has also recently appointed John Raven as a director from Oxera Consulting.
