Deloitte wins Mumsnet Family Friendly Award for its Return to Work programme

04 October 2017

The winners of the 2017 Mumsnet Family Friendly Awards were last night announced at a ceremony hosted by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan. Deloitte won the first Mumsnet Returnship Award, a new category for 2017.

The new award has been created to shine a light on companies who are leading the way with excellent returnship programmes to encourage and support parents who want to come back to work after having a child. All entrants for the returnship award were required to have operated a formal, paid returnship programme in the last two years.

Emma Codd, Managing Partner for Talent, Deloitte said: “Deloitte is delighted to be recognised by Mumsnet for its Return to Work programme, which launched in 2015 and was an industry first. Since then we have enabled 37 women to re-enter the workplace and restart their careers. These women bring not only their skills from their previous roles but also those that they have built during their time out of the workplace. We are incredibly proud of our programme and its participants and look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength.”

Mumsnet’s Family Friendly programme seeks to celebrate companies who are taking strides in family friendliness for their people - showing leadership in flexibility, returnships, and policies such as parental leave. Since the programme started in 2011 and around two million employees have been involved.

Mumsnet Founder and CEO Justine Roberts said: “This has been the year of the returnship, and it’s been exciting to see so many employers embracing the idea with real enthusiasm. Our Family Friendly programme continues to evidence the innovatory thinking of the best employers. Many congratulations to all the award winners and the runners-up.”

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “As a proud feminist at City Hall, I find it hard to believe that in 2017 so many mothers in our city have their career prospects limited by a lack of access to flexible working and family-friendly working conditions. London is the best city in the world in which to do business – I want it to be the best city in the world in which to work as well. I am determined to work with organisations like Mumsnet and lead by example on this hugely important issue.”

“As well as increasing the availability of part-time and flexible working options and offering staff across the Greater London Authority family interest-free loans for childcare deposits, I am also launching my Good Work Standard which will support employers in adopting the very best employment standards, including family-friendly policies. Many employers are already doing great work in this area and I want to help spread that work.”
