Duncan Johnston, comments on today’s UK PMI data for January
01 February 2021
Duncan Johnston, Deloitte’s UK manufacturing leader comments on today’s UK PMI data for January, showing a reading of 54.1, down from 57.5 in December.
“Although the headline number is a reduction, the metric remains positive as it is still above 50. In fact we see an eighth successive month of increasing manufacturing output as a real positive for the UK. This has been achieved against the backdrop of lockdown restrictions and supply chain disruption. Going forward it’s important that small and medium sized manufacturers are able to adapt swiftly to the new requirements of additional documentation for exports.
“The sector has been forced to make changes to its ways of working to allow production to continue through lockdown. Looking further ahead, this may provide a catalyst for innovation to improve manufacturing productivity.”
