Deloitte's UK manufacturing leader, Duncan Johnston, comments on today’s PMI figures
04 May 2021
The UK PMI data for April shows a reading of 60.9 up from 58.9 in March, responding to this, Deloitte’s UK manufacturing leader Duncan Johnston said:
“This data confirms that the recovery in the UK manufacturing sector is gaining strength, driven mostly by domestic consumer demand. Lengthening supplier lead times are a real concern for manufacturers, and if this isn’t resolved it could dampen growth in the coming months.
“A rise in export order intake is also encouraging. Despite Brexit, larger manufacturers in particular are finding ways to trade with EU customers, while smaller manufacturers are finding the new environment harder and will need to find new ways to work through this in the coming months.”
