EU moves towards final approval of European General Data Protection Regulation
16 December 2015
Peter Gooch, UK privacy practice leader at Deloitte, said: “The EU has taken a giant step towards final approval of the much anticipated European General Data Protection Regulation. The long term impact on business may ultimately depend on the level of enforcement, but companies have two years to get their houses in order once the European Parliament has ratified it in early 2016.
“One challenge will be for companies to assess how compliant they are and what degree of change they need to make. Rules such as breach notifications, the ‘right to be forgotten’, the right to data portability and taking a more proactive approach will have an impact on all companies across the 28-member European Union.”
