Summer transfer window 2016: Premier League clubs pass £1bn barrier ahead of deadline day - Deloitte

As of 0830hrs BST on Wednesday 31 August 2016, Premier League clubs’ total gross spending stood at £1.005bn, according to Deloitte’s Sports Business Group. Premier League clubs’ net spending stood at £527m.

This marks the first time that Premier League clubs have spent more than £1bn in a single transfer window. At the same stage last year, gross Premier League spending was £780m, and net spending £385m.

The information on player transfers is based on publicly available information in respect of player registration acquisitions by clubs, including from www.bbc.co.uk and www.premierleague.com, and further analysis carried out by the Sports Business Group at Deloitte. The information is based on reported transfers as at 08:30 on 31 August 2016. Further commentary about the transfer market is included in the Deloitte Annual Review of Football Finance.
