Stephen Hall becomes new head of Deloitte Newcastle
15 July 2015
- Stephen Hall is a Tax Partner for Deloitte and leads the North East Tax practice
- Paul Feechan to retire after 30 years
- Hall heads a team of over 200 based in Newcastle
Tax partner Stephen Hall has taken over as the office senior partner in the North East, following Paul Feechan’s decision to retire from the professional services business in August this year.
Well known in the region, Stephen, who is originally from Durham, has been with Deloitte for 22 years and a partner since 2008. He leads the North East Tax practice as well as being the Private Client tax lead for Yorkshire and the North East.
Paul will retire after 30 years with the firm in the North East, Yorkshire and overseas, including 20 years as a partner.
The change follows a successful period for Deloitte – the firm has grown revenues by 13% over the last two years, introduced Dave Johnson and Kate Darlison as new audit partners in September 2014, and recently received the Accountancy Firm of the Year Award at the North East Accountancy Awards 2015.
Deloitte, which provides audit, tax, consulting, financial advisory and risk management services, employs more than 200 people in its Newcastle office, working with a diverse client base ranging from owner-managed businesses to multinational corporations.
New office senior partner, Stephen Hall, said: “I’m delighted to be taking over from Paul, who couldn’t be leaving the North East practice in a healthier position. Under his stewardship our presence and investment in the region have grown significantly and as a firm we are working with the majority of the most influential companies operating here.
“In 2014 Paul led the development of Deloitte’s accounting and audit Centre of Excellence, which has so far created over 50 jobs and is providing a new pathway into the accountancy profession for people in the North East.
“I’m looking forward to continuing his work in spreading the word about just how much Deloitte has to offer both to clients and as an employer. We have a fantastic global network and a talented North East team, with a great combination of scale, specialist knowledge and deep experience. As our clients operate in a global economy we provide easy access to all the services they need.”
Paul Feechan added: “Over the last 30 years I’ve been privileged to work with many of the region’s best companies and most talented management teams. The changes in the local economy over that period have been profound and today, the North East region is justifiably proud of its position as a net exporter, with so many innovative manufacturing and service businesses, both global and owner-managed, trading internationally. That’s why I believe that Deloitte continues to offer such a valuable service as a global firm operating in a local market.”
