Broadcast and commercial rights valuation for World Rugby

As part of the host tendering process for the Rugby World Cup 2015 and 2019, World Rugby appointed the Deloitte Sports Business Group to value the broadcast and commercial revenues that could be generated in each host candidate location.

We valued the potential level of broadcast revenues that could be generated on a market by market basis through the two tournaments depending on the host candidate location – England, Italy, Japan and South Africa.

Our work also identified the key host broadcast issues, and potential solutions, associated with each host candidate location. We also valued the revenues that could be generated through each of the key central commercial revenue streams - sponsorship, commercial ticketing, licensing - depending on the host location.

Our work formed a key part of World Rugby’s bid evaluation process for awarding the hosts to Rugby World Cup 2015 and 2019.
