Feasibility study of the privatisation of sports clubs for the Government of Saudi Arabia
Feasibility study of the privatisation of leading sports clubs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, together with a blueprint for the future structure and operation of the Saudi Arabian professional football league.
The Government of Saudi Arabia had set up a committee to review the feasibility of privatising sports clubs in Saudi Arabia and if so, how the privatisation of clubs may proceed.
In recognition of the role that football plays in the Kingdom’s sports market, the committee were also keen to review the existing governance, structure and operations of the professional football league and to explore alternative models to encourage a long-term, sustainable future for clubs.
We were engaged by the committee to deliver a comprehensive feasibility study for the privatisation of leading sports clubs in Saudi Arabia. This included a blueprint for the future structure and operation of Saudi Arabian professional football as well as the governance, organisational and operational frameworks required to achieve this, together with preparation plans for the privatisation of clubs.
The study incorporated real estate assessments, financial forecasts and valuations and formed the basis of a submission to the Kingdom’s Supreme Economic Council for approval.
“In a major project lasting over a year, Deloitte provided a thorough feasibility study into the privatisation of leading sports clubs and the establishment of a private professional football league in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Deloitte’s Sports Business Group sets the firm apart as football experts. They brought their insight from football and other sports around the world to develop strong, innovative recommendations for Saudi clubs. Dan and his team did an excellent job.”
