Deloitte Parasport and wheelchair tennis

Our disability sport journey has gone from strength to strength since 2007 when we launched Deloitte Parasport, a ground breaking online resource to help people with a disability become more active through sport. Created by the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and with the investment and backing of Deloitte, Parasport is designed to encourage a more active disability sport community by signposting people to sports and where they can play them.

Over 2,500 sports clubs have registered across the UK on Deloitte Parasport, and the website received 48,000 unique visitors in 2014.

We currently support a total of 88 wheelchair tennis clubs through Parasport, and have also helped wheelchair tennis podium potentials through the Deloitte Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS). This scheme, which ran during the 5 years prior to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, was run by the charity SportsAid and supported more than 500 athletes.

Louise Hunt, GB Wheelchair tennis player and Deloitte TASS alumni, will be taking part in the Championships at Wimbledon for the first time this year.

“I am really excited to be competing in my first grand slam this year at Wimbledon, it really is a dream come true. I’m having the best year of my career yet with my most successful results. It’s been a long journey and it wouldn’t have been possible without many people who have supported me along the way, including the Deloitte TASS programme which I benefited from for many years!”
