Michael leads the Private Client Services practice across the UK and has more than 20 years’ experience of advising ultra-high net worth individual and family office clients on complex personal tax matters. He also leads the Deloitte Private Tax team.

Michael deals extensively with international issues, advising both non-UK domiciliaries and non-UK residents on how to structure their family and business affairs, regularly working with non-UK resident trustees in the process. He played a central role in Deloitte’s response to the 2017 changes to the taxation of non-UK domiciliaries, non-UK resident trusts and UK residential property, attending numerous meetings with HM Treasury and HMRC as the different aspects of the changes developed.

Michael also regularly advises management teams and shareholders of private companies in relation to the personal tax implications of commercial transactions, such as trade sales and private-equity backed buy-outs, as well as then advising on appropriate personal structuring for the wealth created as a result.

Michael is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and was recognised as one of ePrivateClient’s 50 Most Influential UK private client advisers in 2023.
