Supporting my career growth, and life as a military spouse
Like many of us, I relentlessly (sometimes foolishly) strive to seek balance between work and home front demands as a mother, wife, and a principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP. But as a military spouse of an active-duty Air Force pilot, that balance can seem elusive to find. In fulfilling his own mission requirements, my husband’s schedule can range from late nights at his office to extended time away conducting training. As other military spouses can likely attest, we grow accustomed to “covering down and rising up” to support our service members’ unwavering commitment to serve.
Incidentally, the U.S. military has been the underpinning of my entire career and has fueled my own passion for service. I worked within the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon through several administrations before transitioning to my role with Deloitte. In my role, I’m driving strategic transformations across military readiness and military family programs in the market. It's the focus of many of our people and our clients—our collective dedication to service—that helps to make us a provider of choice to help tackle some of the toughest national security challenges.
And while I'm joined by over 400 other military spouses at Deloitte, the road for many of us hasn’t been easy. I can recall a time a few years back where I convinced myself that my husband’s career and my own couldn’t coexist. But with three military moves under our belt since then, my self-doubt was overshadowed by the overwhelming support from my leadership, my teammates, even many of my clients, and most importantly, my husband wearing the uniform.
Maintaining and growing my career at Deloitte hasn’t been a result of juggling various roles—as a PPMD, a military spouse, a parent—but rather the deliberate integration of them. I feel that I am a better professional because of my service as a military spouse and that I’m a better wife and mother because of my purpose and my work at Deloitte.
