Band of brothers

Through demonstrating passion, respect, integrity, discipline, and excellence, the team’s members hope to perform at their best while expanding the sport in the United States. In this short video, learn about what makes these athletes tick—and why they're confident they will succeed.
About the USA Men’s Eagles Sevens Rugby Team
The sport dates back to 1823, when it was invented at Rugby School in Rugby, England. Fast-forward almost 200 years, and it has evolved into one of the most popular sports in the world. While traditional rugby union is still played with 15 players per side, the faster-paced rugby sevens—with 7 players per side—features matches that last just 14 minutes, with nonstop action and scoring. Equal parts soccer, hockey, and basketball, sevens is poised to take the world by storm, and Team USA will be in the thick of the medal hunt.
The USA Men's Eagles Sevens—the official men's sevens team of the United States—took the field for the first time in 1976, just one year after the formation of the United States of America Rugby Football Union (now USA Rugby). The team represents the United States in international rugby sevens competitions, including the Sevens World Series and the Rugby World Cup Sevens. The team placed sixth in the 2014–15 World Series, its highest showing since the tournament started in the 1999–2000 season.
Given the athleticism required, the Men's Eagles Sevens often draws athletes from other sports. In the video above, hear directly from team leaders Zack Test, Carlin Isles, and captain Madison Hughes about the values—passion, respect, integrity, discipline, and excellence—that drive this team.
Rugby 101: Deloitte’s guide to the game
This condensed version of rugby packs the punch with fewer players, shorter play time, and just as much aggression. The seven players must be prepared to tackle, ruck, and maul—all with no more than a mouth guard. Fans of traditional rugby will find themselves enthralled by this fast-paced and grueling take on the classic Scottish sport.
