Deloitte Analytics announces collaboration with University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business

Business Analytics Consortium members to offer real-world insights to classroom and research environments.

NEW YORK, Feb. 10, 2016 — Deloitte Analytics, Deloitte Consulting LLP, is proud to announce its collaboration with the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park, and has become a founding member of the Business Analytics Consortium. Under the agreement, Deloitte will offer its industry insights to guide the direction of both academic curricula and research related to analytics, and provide additional learning opportunities for students outside of the classroom.

“We have a long track record of recruiting talented practitioners from the Smith School that both provide the skills we need and fit within our culture,” said Dave Pierce, director, Deloitte Consulting LLP. “Based on that history, we are proud to grow our relationship with the university through the Business Analytics Consortium.”

As an advisory board member, Deloitte will work with faculty and students to help develop an experiential and collaborative learning program focused on business analytics. These efforts are structured around five initiatives: hosting an annual analytical conference; presenting analytics demonstrations on specific software or applications; garnering student participation in corporate projects; executive education; and pairing Deloitte practitioners with Smith’s faculty for research partnerships.

"In the era of big data, students with a business analytics education are in high demand in many industries, and it is expected that demand for analytics skillsets will far outpace supply,” said Dr. Frank Alt, program director of the minor in Business Analytics and associate professor of management science and statistics in the Smith School of Business. “Our hope is for Deloitte and our other corporate members to aid in a continual review of our analytics program and modify its focus in accordance with industry trends, increasing the marketability of the skillsets of our students.”
