Curriculum development program connects accounting educators to real-world challenges; helps to enrich student experience.
STAMFORD, Conn., June 27, 2017—More than 90 accounting educators and professionals convened at the 15th annual Deloitte Foundation Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA) Faculty Consortium, held at Deloitte University. This year’s program, “Reliable Financial Reporting,” discussed current realistic business issues and identified new content professors can incorporate into curricula.
Primary objectives of the Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium are to encourage open dialogue between accounting practitioners and academia; and provide actual cases for the classroom that cover the latest emerging business and accounting issues and trends. Deloitte and the FSA board work collaboratively to develop and execute the content-rich program.
“The Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium is one of many resources we provide to educators that connects academia to the accounting profession,” said Tonie Leatherberry, president, Deloitte Foundation. “Our collaboration with FSA helps to deliver relevant business insights that reflect today’s increasingly complex accounting and auditing challenges and ultimately helping to strengthen the talent pipeline of future CPAs.”
This year’s agenda included in-depth presentations, case studies and a panel discussion with Deloitte professionals and experienced educators at leading accounting programs.
“The Deloitte Foundation/FSA Faculty Consortium provides an outstanding vehicle for accounting faculty from FSA schools to interact with Deloitte professionals and faculty from across the country,” remarked Rebecca Shortridge, president, FSA. “This year, participants had the opportunity to work through a case study on non-GAAP measures, material that is not often presented in detail to professors, as well as a case study on internal controls. We also provided a case study from the Auditor Independence Education Materials developed by Deloitte and the University of Illinois Center for Professional Responsibility in Business and Society. Most importantly, these materials offer real-world applications that help facilitate classroom learning for the next generation of accounting professionals.”
