Industry Veteran Chris Metts Joins Deloitte’s Federal Government Practice With a Focus on Transportation
WASHINGTON, Feb. 27, 2018 — Deloitte announced today that Chris Metts has joined its federal practice as a specialist executive for Deloitte Consulting LLP. In this role, Metts will focus on the growth of Deloitte’s work within the aviation ecosystem with an emphasis on how rapid advances in technology, such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud and smart mobility, will drive improvements in safety, efficiency and customer service.
“Chris’ extensive experience as an air traffic professional will expand Deloitte’s ability to serve our global and domestic aviation and space clients in a time of rapid technological and organizational transformation,” said Dan Helfrich, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP, and federal government practice leader.
“Chris is a respected leader in aviation and air traffic management who has been a key player in the development of Federal Aviation Administration programs and initiatives,” said Diane Murray, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP, and federal civilian government leader. “With more than 30 years of experience in transportation, Chris’ knowledge and leadership will be an invaluable asset to our clients.”
Metts most recently served as vice president of global aviation and air traffic management at Harris Corporation where he was responsible for understanding the current state and trajectory of international aviation and assessing and addressing future trends impacting the National Airspace System (NAS), global air traffic management, and international aviation. Metts also advised on global harmonization of aviation standards and technologies.
“Throughout my career, I have worked to identify industry technology trends and improve transportation standards,” said Metts. “I am excited to have the opportunity to continue this work with Deloitte and to develop impactful solutions for federal transportation clients.”
Before joining Harris Corporation, Metts served 31 years at the FAA. In that role, he held positions of progressive responsibility, ending his time there with the position of chief acquisition officer. Metts also served as vice president of the agency’s program management organization. Metts began his aviation career as an air traffic controller. He rose through the ranks eventually serving as director of operations for the Western U.S. and later, as vice president for en-route and oceanic operations for the entire U.S.
Earlier in his career, Metts served as transportation and civil aviation attaché to U.S. embassies in Japan, China and Singapore. His work included building and maintaining relationships and facilitating the resolution of a variety of global aviation issues.
Metts holds a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautics with an emphasis on safety management systems and air traffic management from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. He has also studied at the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute, focusing on Asian studies and Japanese language training.
