United States Air Force Academy Team Wins Deloitte’s Third Annual Cyber Capture the Flag Challenge
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Feb. 6, 2019—Deloitte announced today that the United State Air Force Academy team won the 2019 Cyber Capture the Flag (CTF) Challenge at the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) Rocky Mountain Cyberspace Symposium. To win, the team successfully completed challenges across several different categories, including cryptography, reverse engineering, forensics and networking.
Brigham Young University placed second with the 2017 winner, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, coming in third. The US Air Force Academy also won last year’s competition.
“Now in its third year, we continue to be impressed by the skills and talent of the students involved in this year’s capture the flag challenge,” said Gordon Hannah, principal, Deloitte & Touche LLP. “All of the teams did an outstanding job taking the challenges head-on. We applaud the participants’ work and encourage today’s teams to continue to pursue a career in cyber. Their skills and passion are needed now more than ever—whether it is working for a government organization, the military or the private sector.”
This is the Deloitte’s third annual CTF challenge at the Cyberspace Symposium. A cyber capture the flag challenge is a competition that serves as a learning platform for students, professionals and anyone interested in cybersecurity. The competition is designed to help sharpen cybersecurity skills and provide hands-on learning and networking opportunities for participants.
Deloitte’s CTF is built on its own “Hackazon” portal, created by the Deloitte Netherlands member firm. The Hackazon portal is a proprietary platform, developed within Deloitte, that is being used as a training and development tool for clients in addition to hosting STEM hackathon challenges.
