What does it mean to you to be a recipient of the 2024 Michelle Go Inclusive Leadership Award?
It is a tremendous honor to be a recipient of the Michelle Go Inclusive Leadership Award. I did not know Michelle Go personally, however, I had the opportunity to connect with others who did know her, and the stories are powerful. I’m inspired by her impact not only at Deloitte but in the community. Being recognized for having the qualities of an inclusive leader is special to me. I truly enjoy people and giving them a space to be themselves.
Why is inclusive leadership important and what does inclusive leadership mean to you?
To me inclusive leadership means creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves. It is important because it drives the success of our relationships, our teams, and the overall organization. The sense of belonging is invaluable.
You started Deloitte as a campus hire. How has Deloitte supported your career journey to becoming an inclusive leader living out purpose?
Deloitte has supported me by providing resources, opportunities, and a culture that prioritizes DEI and our people. Being an inclusive leader can be done in an environment that focuses on empowering others, cultivating connections, and providing opportunities for continuous learning and development. Deloitte values its people and their experiences, which has allowed me to live out my purpose daily.
What is your advice to professionals who want to be an inclusive leader?
Being an inclusive leader requires self-awareness, intentional effort, and continuous development. I’d advise professionals to reflect on their own biases and assumptions, both conscious and unconscious. Use this as a learning tool to create an environment where everyone can express themselves, share ideas, and make mistakes. Actively listen and always remember to show empathy towards others' experiences.
