Meet some of our Advisory professionals below.
Sylvia Taylor, senior consultant
“When you're 22, fresh out of college, and exposed to real-world clients for the first time, it's tough because you don't have that life experience yet. When I came back to Deloitte, I had that experience, and it helped me adapt again to the professional world.”
Lauren Boas Hayes, consultant
“It doesn't matter if the idea comes from the CEO, a partner, or a consultant, as long as you put in the work and demonstrate that it can meet a client need, Deloitte is willing to support it.”
Liz Lee, associate
“At both Virginia Tech and Deloitte, there are so many people from different backgrounds. Everyone at Virginia Tech has a lot of school spirit, and no matter where you come from, we all come out as Hokies. I feel the same way at Deloitte.”
Caitlin Guthinger, senior manager
“I am much less in the data, so to speak. Every morning, I used to get into the databases and write queries. Now I do a lot more requirements gathering; designing, brainstorming, and making suggestions about what we could do. I talk with clients and review the work product to make sure it achieves their objectives. I manage the larger picture now.”
Rebecca Lady, managing director
"Having strong personal and professional relationships is critical, as well as taking care of yourself. Spend time to feed and grow both yourself and those around you. You can’t do a good job, if your job is all you do."
Lee Richardson, manager
“Sometimes strengths are the by-product of personal challenges. Several of my strengths are things I have done to cope with my stutter. For example, in order to mitigate my stutter, a life-long challenge for me, I became an exceptional writer and, at times, over prepared for meetings or presentations. I believe that everyone has something like that. The key is not allowing it to stop you from being your authentic self.”
Christina Canavan, senior manager
“I really like being that role model for my kids, and they—for whatever reason—always walk me out onto the front porch and wave goodbye and help me organize my purse and things like that. I really like that they see me going to work and doing something that is in my own personal world where I am successful and they see my accomplishments.”
Hallisy Beth Bruchs, senior associate
“I was doing ‘reactive’ work. We were called once there was a problem. I didn't want to do that all the time so I made contacts and developed relationships. That’s how I got onto more proactive projects.”
Lauren Jarvis, senior manager
"I love the flexibility and ever-changing nature of my job. Every day is different. I switch between being at client offices some days, working from home other days, and at 30 Rock (Deloitte's New York headquarters) when it's convenient. I have a lot of freedom. I wouldn’t be as enthusiastic or motivated sitting behind a desk at the same building on the same floor every day. That's not my style or personality."
Lily Wolde, senior consultant
“Coming to a new country as a young woman was extremely challenging on many levels: the cultural adjustment, language, financial support, leaving behind my family and friends, and totally starting all over. Like many other immigrants, I had dreamt of coming to America for better opportunities in education and in my career. But the reality of facing it all alone without any parental support and achieving my dream was monumental. Having achieved my career and personal goals, I am at the point of being able to give back to my community. My faith has given me strength and every day I get up and am grateful.”
Rachel Lissak, analyst
"The best part about Deloitte is that if you don’t know that answer to a question, someone you know does and Deloitte most likely has an expert on that topic somewhere in the world – this is the beauty of Deloitte and leveraging your network."
