Deloitte audit professionals provide independent financial statement and internal control audits, in accordance with the latest professional standards and with a focus on quality. Audits and reviews are planned to assess and identify possible risk—whether the risk of a material misstatement or a risk in internal controls. Our professionals work closely with our clients to encourage two-way communication and to minimize surprises.

“It was challenging. I heard about other internships where you only made copies and you weren’t really learning or involved in actual day-to-day audit work. Deloitte wasn’t like that. The people I worked with—the way they talked about their work, the way they were constantly learning, and always doing something different—it was interesting to me. One of the best parts was that the teams we worked with were really great. It was clear that several people on the teams were really good friends, and I thought this was an environment I would want to work in.”

“I am really big into trying to connect my personal life with Deloitte. My boys are classic kids, loving sports and everything, but they also have a variety of hobbies. They love to draw, color, paint, do arts and crafts. My oldest son is a knitter. During the busy season, he actually came into the office on a Saturday and taught my teams how to finger knit blue, green, and white bracelets. One of the seniors on my team went to the Super Bowl and she wore her bracelet.”

“At the end of my rotation—I did two years in the London office—we said we are going to take a few weeks off and go travel, and everyone in the London office was like, ‘You are crazy. Why are you only taking three weeks? That is not a real vacation. Why don’t you take a leave of absence and do some travelling?’ The more I thought about it, the more appealing it became, so we got an around-the-world ticket from British Airways and took off for five months.”

“As a child I lived an impoverished life, but I didn't realize I was poor until I was almost an adult and came to the US, which is quite an accomplishment as a child of a single mother. The most influential person in my life was my grandmother. I spent a lot of time with her and I think that if I reflect on who I am as a person, my grandmother motivated me. She never had any formal education, but was perhaps the wisest person I’ve known. She was very clear that you need to live a life of gratitude and do whatever you can to be a rainbow in the lives of other people.”

“To be completely honest, in the beginning of my junior year I had no idea, I just knew I wanted an accounting internship. I went to a workshop at my career center at Adelphi and they started talking about the big four firms and I said, ‘You know what, I want to work for one of the big firms.’ It just sounded appealing to me. I interviewed with a few of the firms and then I got a random phone call from my career counselor asking me if she could forward my resume to Deloitte & Touche LLP. I said, ‘Sure, of course.’ And I got an interview for the mentorship program, which is where Deloitte takes college students to three events over the summer to provide an opportunity to interact with professionals. Ultimately that’s how I got my internship in 2011.”
