AWS re:Invent 2019 delivers advances in edge computing, ML, and developer tools
Every year at AWS re:Invent, AWS introduces new products and services that are designed to help customers achieve their cloud computing goals and accelerate what's possible. In this episode of the podcast, David Linthicum and Deloitte's JB McGinnis offer listeners a quick debrief on AWS's latest announcements and the excitement surrounding them. Big news for 2019 is an increased focus on edge computing through AWS Outposts and the improved functionality that 5G brings, as well as greater opportunities for machine learning and analytics through Amazon Sagemaker. Developers emerged as clear winners, as AWS announced new tools that put increased functionality and simplicity into their hands. McGinnis predicts that this new functionality, along with lower cloud costs, will lead to growing adoption of cloud in the sectors that have previously lagged.
We saw a greater focus on edge computing functionality through both Outposts and VMware. The launch of local zones and AWS wavelength really capitalizes on the functionality that 5G brings to the world. We saw other releases around Sagemaker—and machine learning in general—and the overall analytics that are being incorporated in Redshift. It’s a very exciting time to be in Las Vegas...it's an exciting time to be in the industry.
