Tax podcast: Potential phase four COVID relief legislation
July 22, 2020
As companies look to recover in the era of COVID-19, it’s important to understand what additional tax legislation might be coming as part of a phase four relief bill. In this episode, Jon Traub discusses what Senate Republicans, House Democrats and the White House are looking for in the bill, as well as the process to get to a final relief package that all groups can agree on.
At this point, Republicans in the Senate don’t have agreement amongst themselves what phase four should look like. They don’t have an agreement between themselves and the president on what phase four should look like. And so those internal intraparty negotiations continue. And until those reach a conclusion, it’s going to be impossible for the parties to sit down with congressional Democrats and hammer out a final agreement.
