Road Town, British Virgin Islands - October 17, 2019
On Wednesday October, 16 2019, eight prominent BVI law firms faced off on sandy courts at the first Deloitte Beach Volleyball Tournament held at Nanny Cay Marina.
Participating teams included Harneys, Mourant Ozannes, Ogier, Carey Olsen, Conyers, Maples Group, Appleby, and Collas Crill with Deloitte staff filling in as super subs for teams. A fun and competitive afternoon away from the office encouraged team building through strengthening greater social and business relations among professionals in the corporate industry.
From the level of enthusiasm and competition among teams, it was clear that each team came out to win. Minor differences determined winners for each single set knockout match. As the intensity grew both on the offence and defence, Team Conyers refused to give into the pressure and ran a good defence after losing their match to Harneys with a score of 17-14. Despite this defeat, Conyers however had a strong comeback delivering powerful performances that led them to the finals, winning 4 out of 5 matches, and scoring 21-8 to defeat Appleby in the championship match. Team Carey Olsen was awarded the prize for Best Dressed Team.
“It was a fantastic event revealing hidden talents with some very impressive playing that turned out to be a very competitive afternoon,” said Nicole Toppin, lead co-ordinator of the event. Carlene Romney, local Audit partner at Deloitte in the British Virgin Islands, expressed that the beach volleyball battle was thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated. Carlene stated: “From the moment I arrived at the games, you could feel the great energy and camraderie. Everyone is looking forward to this being an annual event.” Rachelle Frisby, Deloitte Financial Advisory Partner based in Bermuda, participated in the event and demonstrated her expertise in the sport.
