Another milestone along the journey to VAT implementation
Approval of draft excise duty legislation
The Shurah Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has today approved its national draft excise law. It is understood that the draft excise law is yet to be approved by the KSA cabinet.
In line with the GCC excise treaty, GCC member states are to implement national excise legislation with the aim of decreasing the consumption of harmful products, including tobacco products, energy drinks and soft drinks.
The full text of the published KSA draft legislation can be found on the website of the General Authority of Zakat and Tax here. This may differ from the text of the approved draft law.
All affected businesses should review the details of the draft legislation to assess the impact.
