James Newnham

James Newnham is a M&A Tax Partner at Deloitte Middle East based in Qatar, Doha with over 23 years of experience. He supports businesses on tax aspects relating to all forms of transactions, IPO structuring, tax due diligence and international tax structuring issues.

James regularly advises on the structuring aspects of M&A deals, including providing advice on pre-sale restructures, pre-acquisition mobilization, post-acquisition integration, and divestment strategies. He also provides guidance on SPAs and other IPO and M&A transaction documents including drafting disclosure documents and negotiation of specific tax clauses with the other parties.

James’ advice focusses on achieving the optimal tax outcome for clients.  He ensures that a tax solution aligns with the commercial, accounting, and operational objectives of a deal. He has previously worked for international law and accounting firms and has advised on transactions in multiple jurisdictions and sectors. His clients include multinational corporate groups, global funds, and large family groups. He has a Bachelor of Laws and is a qualified lawyer in Australia.
