Meet Lwazi Bam
A profile of the Deloitte Africa Chief Executive
Lwazi Bam was appointed chief executive of Deloitte Southern Africa on 1 June 2012 and more recently, the chief executive of Deloitte Africa on 1 June 2013. The appointment as chief executive of Deloitte Africa followed the integration of the Deloitte member firms in Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Lwazi has been with Deloitte for 18 years and has served the firm, which is a leader in auditing, consulting, corporate finance, taxation services and risk advisory services, in several roles. These include Lwazi being a member of the Deloitte Board before which he was Deloitte’s Strategy leader and head of Corporate Finance. Lwazi qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000 and was made partner three years later before joining the Executive Committee in 2006.
Lwazi has advised on a number of Merger and Acquisition transactions. His portfolio of experience covers buy-side and sell-side advisory, capital raising, management buy-outs, valuations and due diligence services.
Lwazi was born in eNgqeleni, outside Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape. His family moved to Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal and then Tembisa where he completed his high school education at Woodmead High. While completing his degree, Lwazi started a bookkeeping business with two friends, who approached Deloitte for assistance in servicing their clients. As a result, his career at Deloitte began as Lwazi signed up to complete his articles with Deloitte.
