Deloitte understands the importance of empowering and advancing women. The key strategic goal of DWIL is to increase the number of women at senior leadership levels within Deloitte. Through various initiatives and by hosting selected events, it aims to attract, develop and retain talented women in Deloitte and also provides a platform for business women in South Africa to connect.
The national DWIL committee comprises of senior female leaders from all the firm’s service lines and regions and together, they represent all the females in Deloitte. The current chairperson of the national DWIL committee is Anthea Scholtz, a tax partner in Cape Town.
The advancement of women is 100% supported by our firm’s leadership, including by our CEO and Chairman. This is evidenced by the fact that over the past years the number of professional women in the firm has increased to a point where the firm is currently more than 25% women-owned. Deloitte is also one of the few firms in South Africa that has a specific Board position allocated to the Advancement of Women in the firm.
“In the short to medium term our goal is to achieve critical mass, both in terms of race and gender, in all key areas,” says chief executive Lwazi Bam. “It is vital that there are inspiring women at the most senior levels within the firm to provide the aspiration, motivation and mentorship to our younger women of all races coming through Deloitte.”
