Tell us about your experience?

I have been fortunate to work for a number of professional services firms in my career and over the past 11 years Deloitte has been my home. As a global firm Deloitte offers amazing opportunities for career growth.

Why did you want to work abroad?

I have always believed that an employer can offer you the tools and the foundation to get your career going but to really benefit you have to push for your own personal growth and development. I worked in South Africa for most of my career and I was able through work and family to see many parts of the globe. Deep down I always wanted to work in another country and culture.

How can others facilitate the process to work abroad?

The easiest way to facilitate this is to work through your employer. I started having conversations with leadership around the Africa integration thrust and this is where slowly but surely things started to happen. So in a way my case can be classified as self-select. Both my home office and receiving office in Kenya were very supportive in making things happen.

How is your experience working in East Africa?

The team that I am working with is a strong team covering talent work in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Burundi. I am now one year into a two year secondment experience and my expectations have been exceeded. Deloitte East Africa is a very welcoming family and I feel I now have many more brothers and sisters as friends!!!!!
