The future of actuarial analysis

Exemplar is a newly developed software solution designed to assist actuaries with loss reserving. It combines an innovative graphical interface with best-practice actuarial techniques to provide an intuitive and powerful tool.

Exemplar is focused on providing a streamlined and seamless reserving environment that aims to automate mechanical tasks and empower the user to focus on the most accurate application of industry standard actuarial methodologies, all within Deloitte’s market-leading customer service and support framework. The solution establishes a robust and transparent environment to ensure not only ease of use, but complete flexibility to easily create everything from custom views to report dashboards.

Various data structures are supported to facilitate data import, including a comprehensive data import wizard to automatically create a wide range of input objects and models. This is accompanied by a range of available reserving methodologies, including:

  • the Basic Chain Ladder method,
  • the Bornhuetter-Ferguson method,
  • the Average Cost Per Claim method,
  • the Generalised Cape Cod method,
  • Berquist-Sherman methods,
  • The Mack method, and
  • Bootstrap methods.

These models are complemented by a rich graphical interface with multi-screen support to ensure intuitive application of considered actuarial judgment. To ensure that no task is unduly replicated, the solution further includes roll-forward functionality to ease the production of reserve estimates at various valuation dates. Exemplar provides support to facilitate the export of results into the familiar Excel environment, and incorporates effortlessly into existing processes and reports with a user-friendly Excel add-in. All of this is accompanied by a detailed audit trail and readily available data diagnostics, at a fraction of the cost of market alternatives.
