Turnaround & Restructuring
Deloitte Turnaround & Restructuring provides restructuring, turnaround and implementation advice and services to underperforming and financially distressed businesses, their stakeholders, and advisors.
Time to Turn Things Around?
When a company is stressed and distressed, it can seem like everything is going wrong at once: creditors demand faster payment, customers stop paying on time, capital expenditure is delayed, and liquidity is increasingly tight. For those experiencing some or all of these signs, it can be hard to know where to start to fix the problem.
The Deloitte Turnaround & Restructuring team helps clients react quickly and confidently under pressure and in the face of challenges.
Our South African team collectively has almost 50 years of restructuring experience, almost 20 of which in banking and private equity, which we leverage to navigate our clients through crisis and back to growth.
We do this by rapidly deploying teams to create a common information platform that all stakeholders can rely on. This gives all parties visibility over liquidity, financial viability, and other key risks. In our experience, this builds trust among stakeholders and provides a period of stability. We then offer our best-in-class stakeholder management and restructuring experience to help clients design a restructuring solution, negotiate the terms with stakeholders and implement the turnaround.
Our South Africa-based team is uniquely placed to support our clients for three key reasons:
- Our senior South African team has spent over 25 years in European restructuring markets, which gives you the comfort that we provide world-class, cutting-edge restructuring advice and solutions at local prices.
- We have a market leading knowledge of technical restructuring and insolvency law, with all team members accredited by at least one leading restructuring industry body with local and international qualifications.
- We have an unrivalled local and international network and can call on the right expert at a moment’s notice. This includes drawing on the breadth of Deloitte’s sector and financial advisory experts, lawyers, and potential investors. As your restructuring evolves, we evolve with it.
For many of our clients, restructuring is a new and unfamiliar world. We have a track record of delivering consensual solutions in stressful, time-pressured situations. Our goal is simple: to ensure this restructuring is your last.
Our Comprehensive Suite of Turnaround & Restructuring Services
Business Review & Turnaround
We rapidly diagnose the root causes of distress, assess the viability of the business and validate the short to medium-term funding requirement; creating a reliable common information platform that provides a sound basis on which stakeholders can negotiate, supporting either management or a Chief Restructuring Officer.
We also offer discrete products outside a restructuring process including:
Working capital optimisation; and
Going concern reviews.
E2E Credit Support
Our T&R team is comprised of ex-bankers, which allows us to provide tailored support across the end-to-end credit cycle for complex or multi-lender situations, including: business plan & forecast review, the appraisal of restructuring options and security assessment.
Financial Restructuring Advisory
This is applicable when a company is in stress / distress and must immediately assess options, along with its other stakeholders, to address liquidity pressures. We drive the complex negotiations of consensual restructuring solutions, in conjunction with ‘Plan B’ contingency planning. Solutions may include refinancing, amend & extend, M&A and insolvent routes. Our advice is underpinned by best-in-class ‘Plan A’ restructuring modelling to ensure stakeholders understand the impact of proposals on their returns.
We apply specialist knowledge of formal and informal enforcement procedures to help management and stakeholders understand and prepare for ‘Plan B’ solutions, e.g. business rescue. Our advice is underpinned by ‘Plan B’ entity priority modelling to ensure stakeholders understand the impact of rejecting the ‘Plan A’ proposal.
Business Rescue Support
We apply our market-leading technical and cross-border insolvency expertise to support business rescue practitioners through each step of the business rescue process and maximise the likelihood of success. This includes sizing the PCF requirement, stakeholder management, running a cash conservation and management office, investigating company affairs and drafting the business rescue plan.
