Revenue authorities across Africa are increasing their scrutiny of cross-border transactions between related parties – mainly due to increased pressure on the fiscus. This is giving rise to an increase in transfer pricing audits across Africa.

In the 2019 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP) statistics, it is noted that of the 2 690 new MAP global cases which were initiated during 2019, approximately 43% were transfer pricing cases.

The closure of certain international borders in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), continue to challenge everyone in the mobility space. Although, some countries are gradually opening borders, albeit to varying degrees and with different conditions, the business community has somewhat resumed commercial activities and is slowly adjusting to new ways of working.

COVID-19 immigration management post lockdown

COVID-19 and the accompany worldwide lockdown, and closure of borders has presented certain challenges to companies, human resources and mobility staff, assignees and accompanying family alike, many of whom were caught in different stages of the immigration process when borders were closed.
