Uganda Annual CFO Awards 2020

Finance executives are invited to join the ACCA-Deloitte Chief Finance Officer (CFO) Awards 2020 edition.

ACCA Uganda and Deloitte are proud to launch the 2020 Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Awards, under the theme “Lessons from COVID-19: Cultivating resilience for finance leaders and organisations”.

The annual CFO Awards seek to illuminate the essential role that the finance function plays in driving integrated thinking in decision-making and in building sustainable business models.

The specific objectives of the CFO awards:

  • Raise the profile of CFOs and their changing role in developing good business and finance practices.
  • Recognize excellence and the essential role that finance functions play in helping to build resilient organizations and sustainable business models.·      
  • Create a platform for sharing best practice, drive awareness, inspire action and develop a community of finance leaders, committed to create more sustainable outcomes for their organizations.

The awards categories

The eight categories that the CFO Awards 2018 seeks to recognise are:

  • CFO of the Year
  • Young CFO Award
  • Public Sector Award
  • Not-for-Profit Award
  • SME Award
  • Strategy Execution Award
  • Finance Transformation Award
  • Finance and Technology Award
  • Social Impact Award

Note: Last year’s award winners aren’t eligible for nomination in the same categories they won.

The 2020 CFO Award Categories

The eight categories that the awards seek to recognize are:  

CFO of the Year Award

This award will go to a CFO or Head of Finance who has demonstrated financial leadership and outstanding performance over a number of years. The individual should have demonstrated great courage and ability to navigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on their organization while also painting a compelling picture of the future that inspires others to persevere. This CFO or Head of Finance leads by example and demonstrates leadership through their future-focus and proficiency in the seven vital qualities of professional accountants, which include intelligence, creativity, digital knowledge, emotional intelligence, experience, vision, and technical and ethical skills.


Young CFO Award

This award will recognize a rising star in the accounting profession, aged no more than 35 years and has demonstrated the seven vital qualities of professional accountants which include intelligence, creativity, digital knowledge, emotional intelligence, experience, vision and technical and ethical skills.


Public Sector Award

This award will go to a CFO or Head of Finance in a government ministry, agency or department who has demonstrated outstanding financial management as well as the seven vital qualities of professional accountants which include intelligence, creativity, digital knowledge, emotional intelligence, experience, vision and technical and ethical skills.


Not-for-Profit Award

This award will go to an outstanding CFO or Head of Finance currently making a vital contribution to the financial leadership of a not-for-profit organization and has demonstrated the seven vital qualities of professional accountants which include intelligence, creativity, digital knowledge, emotional intelligence, experience, vision and technical and ethical skills.


SME Award

This award will recognize a CFO or Head of Finance in a Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME), who has demonstrated outstanding financial management and contributed to the growth of the enterprise. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) include all types of formal enterprises irrespective of their legal form (such as family enterprises, sole proprietorships or cooperatives), employing between 5 - 100 employees and total assets not exceeding UGX 360 million.


Strategy Execution Award

This award recognizes a CFO or Head of Finance who has shown agility and resilience in dealing with significant disruptions and changes in the business environment, enabling the business to successfully adapt to new demands and challenges. This CFO or Head of Finance will have shown great leadership in creating the right (financial) conditions to execute the organization’s strategy.


Finance Transformation Award

This award recognizes a CFO or Head of Finance who has championed transformative solutions in their finance function and has been successful in redefining the role of finance within their organization.


Social Impact Award

This award will recognize a CFO or Head of Finance who has demonstrated leadership in mobilizing internal and external resources to complement Government of Uganda’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
