Summary

After two previous unsuccessful applications by the city for the Federal Grant 'Smart Cities made in Germany', Deloitte supported the client in developing a comprehensive strategy, combining pre-existing strategy documents with the latest trends and developments in the field, and drafting an overall budget plan for the current application.

Challenge

After two previous applications for the Federal Grant 'Smart Cities made in Germany', which turned out to be non-successful, the client decided to engage an external partner to help structure and coordinate the application process as well as draft the specific application texts.

Approach

In order for the client to submit the grant application, Deloitte conducted the following activities: Design-thinking workshops with relevant stakeholders from the client's administration, desk research in relevant areas of interests, conceptualization of the financial and budget plan, including forecasts for the next five years, finalization of the application text and appendices, and documentation.

Impact

The Deloitte team assisted the client in applying for a federal grant, helping to structure and coordinate the application.

With the help pf Deloitte, the client was able to submit the application in time and in much higher quality, following a clear and cohesive structure, compared to the previous attempts.
