The role of financial information and the goals of financial analysis
Losses stemming from manipulation of financial statements or inaccuracies
Types of analytical procedures depending on the depth of analysis, ranging from analysis of general reporting to significant accounts and individual transactions
Analytical procedures at the level of the overall financial statement:
industry characteristics of the balance sheet’s structure
industry features of the profit or loss statement’s (PLS) structure
the relationship between a Company’s profit and loss statement and balance sheet
horizontal and vertical analysis of statements
liquidity, financial stability, turnover and operating efficiency ratios
Analytical procedures at the material accounts level: assets, revenues and margins, operating income and expenses, and calculation of individual ratios for material accounts along with their interpretation
Using multi-factor models to identify misstatements
The Beneish Model (aggregated M-score index)
Analysis of changes in working capital
Review of statements using non-financial indicators
The Altman model (Z-score)
