Igniting global growth with Napoleon

Napoleon, a Canadian manufacturer of grills, fireplaces, and heating and cooling systems, turned to Deloitte Private to provide advice and recommendations when it decided to grow the family-owned business into a global brand. So began an ongoing engagement, building a foundation of trust and transparency.

“Deloitte Private met all the requirements we were looking for,” says Napoleon’s president, Ron McArthur. “The team brought knowledge and leading practices into our discussions that we were able to act upon.”

For the management team of the 40-plus-year-old company, it was important to work with an engagement team that understood what Napoleon wanted to build. Our approach was to bring to the table practitioners who could make observations of the client’s operations in order to best provide advice and recommendations to the company as it sought to reach its ambitious goals.

“The team’s advisory services and recommendations enabled our leaders to develop the knowledge to make strategic decisions that impact our company from a global perspective,” says McArthur.

Led by co-CEOs Chris and Stephen Schroeter as well as McArthur, Napoleon’s management team also wanted to work with a team that could look back in order to look forward. The group from Deloitte Private made observations of the systems already in place and then made recommendations concerning more than two dozen distinct areas, as well as providing advisory services in tax planning.

Napoleon now has more than 1,600 staff members in more than 40 countries, having met an ambitious 2013 goal of doubling its growth by 2018.
