When it comes to delivering value from your core business applications, the questions are not new:
- How do I deliver more value from my data?
- How do I enable the business to innovate and bring new products and services to market quickly?
- How do I deliver a better customer experience?
- And how do I achieve all this in a secure, reliable and cost effective way?
The real question here is, how does Cloud help you move the dial on the answers to these questions? Cloud is not a new platform for your application services; rather it is a platform for new services that change the way your applications deliver service to the business.
What can Cloud do for me?
Cloud services provide a new set of tools. Properly executed Cloud can allow access to new products and services in an on-demand, straightforward and secure manner, allowing you to reduce customisation of your application suite, and select the best of breed services for your organisation. In addition, it allows you to deliver more through the use of specialised value added tools such as BigData, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, etc. One of our Swiss clients ramped up their data science capabilities by moving away from an on-premise tool stack to a fully automated, state-of-the-art, Cloud-based data platform, making insights available to business in a fraction of the previous time.
However to make all this possible, you need to have the right long-term vision for your application estate, ensuring you put your data where you need it, have a scalable integration capability, with the right connectivity and security embedded in your architecture. Additionally, it should be understood that applications have different Cloud affinities, and the benefits of a migration may drastically vary based on the unique characteristics of the application, as well as the target environment. We supported one of our Swiss global clients in assessing the migration business cases for a limited number of applications, and the results ranged from 40% to 2% TCO savings per application. Therefore, it is key to conduct a holistic IT portfolio and Cloud suitability assessment, to identify which solutions will deliver a solid migration business case, and ensure the migration schedule is aiming at the right targets.
